On Wednesday, August 27th, the Family Business Hub officially launched NextGen Connect, a pioneering initiative designed to equip and unite the next generation of family business leaders.
The initiative provides a community and safe space for emerging leaders, siblings, successors, innovators, and advocates of legacy enterprises, to build capacity, share knowledge, and prepare to lead businesses that endure across generations.
The urgency is real: 70% of family businesses do not survive beyond the founder.
In Africa, the statistics are even more alarming. But the launch of NextGen Connect carries a bold message, it is possible to change this narrative. The key is intentional leadership.
Founder’s Vision
“NextGen Connect was born out of a conviction, that the story of African family businesses does not have to end with the founder. Too many businesses disappear because continuity was left to chance, not choice. Through this initiative, we are building a safe space and a strong community for next gens to learn, share, and lead with purpose. Our goal is simple: family businesses that survive and thrive across generations.”
— Mary Asante-Asamoah, Founder, Family Business Hub & Host of Family Business Diaries.
The inaugural event brought together a diverse group of professionals from various industries, creating a vibrant exchange of ideas and strategies. Attendees represented a wide range of sectors, including Technology & Digital-Focused Industries, Consumer-Facing Industries, Service & Consulting Industries, and Manufacturing & Production Industries.
Keynote Highlight
One of the most impactful moments of the day was the keynote address by Dr. Gifty Quarshie-Ngissah, Medical Director of Midway Hospital—a family enterprise 45 years strong, now thriving five years after the founder’s passing. Her inspiring leadership journey captured the essence of transition and transformation: restructuring and growing the business, building family-like bonds with employees, and making bold decisions for sustainability. Her story offered powerful lessons on resilience, innovation, and honoring tradition while embracing change.

From Podcast to Platform
NextGen Connect builds on the momentum of the Family Business Diaries podcast, which first raised awareness about the unique challenges and opportunities of family enterprises. What began as storytelling has now evolved into a live, dynamic platform for community, collaboration, and legacy-building.
A Call to Action
The launch event in Accra is just the beginning. NextGen Connect warmly welcomes more young leaders across Ghana, Africa, and beyond to join the movement.

The first event was amazing, and we’re excited to announce that the Next Hangout will be in November. We’ll be sharing the date, time, and location soon, so stay tuned for more details.
Together, the next generation can transform today’s challenges into impact, continuity, and thriving legacies.
